Costumes and props

Costumes

For the interview with Kira Jones, we wanted her to wear anything particularly out of the ordinary, as she was shown as an average Tumblr user.

We wanted the documentarian to look smart-casual, as the one of the interviews was with a social media expert, and therefore a more serious interview, but the interview with Kira Jones was more casual, and we didn't want the documentarian to be out of place at either.

Props

One of the props we used was a laptop, on which we displayed a Tumblr page during the interview with Kira Jones. This was partly to show the audience the site, and partly to present Kira as a regular user.

We also used a car during filming, to show the documentarian travelling to the interviews. We wanted a chance for the documentarian to introduce where they were going and who they were going to interview, and the car worked for this.

Internet Culture: Online Hysteria - (First Cut)

We decided to put together a first, rough cut of our documentary, to get an idea of how it was going, and to see which bits needed improving on or removing. This was beneficial, as we chose to make several changes from this version to our final version, including taking out some of the shots we used, which were not appropriate to a documentary, and cutting down one of the interviews as it was too long.

Request for interview - Mr Preston

Mr Preston,

Are you free on Tuesday 21st January after school? We would like to be able to film our interview with you for our media documentary that day, if it works for you. We can give you a copy of the questions in advance if you would like.

As a reminder, the interview is about the effect of the Internet, and more specifcally Tumblr, on online social behaviours.

We would also like to request that you wear a suit, please? If at all possible.

Thank you in advance,

Josh Endersby
Tom Barden
Anna Ingoldsby

Tumblr screen footage

As part of our documentary, we wanted to take some screen capture of Tumblr, not only to show the audience the website, but also so that we couold communicate facts and statistics by posting them on Tumblr and recording this. The screen capture was recorded using a trial version of Camtasia.
The posts were created using Paint, as a mixture of text posts and images, to give the Tumblr dashboard more variety.
